The path is open only between dawn and dusk, and we are dependent on the local factory staff to open the gates.
This arrangement is generally ok, but in the event of a problem, the walking diversion (westbound) is East Coast Road, Faraday Road and Washford Road to rejoin the walk at Washford Bridge. You may need an A-Z or see the Multi-Map website to clarify the above description, or if you know a better diversion, please let me know.
The 23rd and last annual Five Weirs bulletin has been posted. Apologies to those on the list for an e-mail copy. The list was one of the few unrecoverable files following a computer virus and, therefore, all details were lost.
In the Blonk Street Area, the walk is currently disrupted by Environment Agency / City Council Works. The nature of these varies from day to day; follow the signed diversions. If the diversion signs are not in place:
If you are travelling westbound (towards the City) I suggest that when you have crossed the Bailey Bridge, turn right and stay on the road to the City Centre for the tram or to Victoria Quays for the canal towpath.
If you are travelling eastbound (towards Meadowhall) I suggest that you follow Effingham Road between the Park Inn and Hilton hotels (none of these marked on map) and start the walk proper at the Bailey Bridge.
We have available copies of our up to date brochure, which includes an up to date map of the Five Weirs Walk, the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal Trail and most of the River Don link path from Meadowhall to Rotherham.
The brochure is in full colour, contains some stunning photos and a brief commentary on different aspects of the walk. It can usually be obtained from the tourist offices in Sheffield and Rotherham but check with them first as stocks move fairly quickly. In the event of any difficulty in obtaining one, e-mail a postal address via the link and we will send one free of charge.
The map can be accessed via the "Map" link at the bottom of this page. The map can be downloaded if you have "Adobe Acrobat Reader" software, which can be downloaded free of charge from Adobe.com
The map is reasonably up to date except, sadly, for the pubs. Of the ones marked on the map:
Closed:
Open: (Any additional information such as quality of beer, food etc is most welcome)
Other Pubs on the Map:
